One of my friends was laid off a few months ago, but she still maintains a steady routine, hardly complains, and diligently applies for jobs, eventually finding a new opportunity.
Her secret lies not only in her inner strength but also in having a robust external support system. When anxiety strikes, she seeks solace in her family and friends, and at times, finds comfort by burying her face in her cat's belly for strength. For work-related issues, she consults experienced former colleagues and receives advice and job recommendations from recruiters. This well-rounded support network is the key to her maintaining tranquility and stability.
What is a Social Support System? Why is it important?
A social support system includes emotional support, informational support, material support, and appraisal support from family, friends, colleagues, and the community. Research shows that social support significantly enhances mental health and overall well-being. The more diverse the support resources, the better the health condition.
In my personal experience, as someone who grew up in an ordinary family, the most effective way to establish a social support system is to "let my friends become friends with each other."
