Product Inspiration

This hand-woven tri-color single pendant bracelet was created by The Palace Museum's legendary Red Gold-Drawn Silver Dragons Playing with Pearls Counterfoil Silk, inspired by manifestation (manifest).

This hand-painted silk cloth with regimental dragon motifs was made from high quality silk used exclusively by the emperor. The colors are vibrant and the dragon motifs depicted in gold and silver appear to be very powerful, symbolizing the emperor's power. The silk cloth is in perfect condition and comes with a lacquer box painted with dragon motifs.

This lacquer box is square, with a dragon painted in the center and lotus flowers at the corners, symbolizing good fortune. When the box is opened, there is a beautifully decorated compartment made of a swastika-shaped frame. This compartment prevents the wind from blowing the paper inside when the box is opened. Based on the craftsmanship of the lacquer box, it can be assumed that it was made in the palace of the Qing Dynasty (a dynasty in Chinese history). The silk cloth in this lacquer box is said to be a gift from Pu Jie (the younger brother of Pu Yi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty) to a Japanese friend.

Pattern Description

The cloud pattern is the most symbolic traditional pattern in Eastern culture. In China, Japan, and Hong Kong, the flowing and dynamic form of the cloud pattern symbolizes smoothness and spirituality, and is widely used in a variety of decorative and feng shui layouts. Often appearing together with dragons and phoenixes, the cloud pattern's flowing form symbolizes the smooth flow of things and natural transitions, and this rune is effective in promoting energy flow, making the aura more harmonious and smooth, and helping to dissolve obstacles and difficulties. The ever-changing form of the cloud also symbolizes endless creativity and inspiration, helping to stimulate the creativity and inspiration of the occupants, with the wearer mostly being fashion designers, painters, and other professions that need to stimulate the mind.

Colour Matching

Red Violet is a flower color derived from chrysanthemums and peonies and was valued during the Southern Song Dynasty. Shun Sheng Violet is a fuchsia hue, popular during the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, where bright red was added to brighten the color. Peonies became popular during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, and Shunsheng Purple chrysanthemums were not expensive during the Ming Dynasty. As a traditional color, Shunsheng Purple represents the aesthetic and cultural style of the times.

Reluctant red is an imaginative light red from the Song Dynasty in China, referring to a lighter color than pink. There are also detailed dyeing procedures in ancient texts describing how to dye a lovely bright red color. This color has disappeared in modern times and only appears in ancient texts.

Moon white is a color in traditional Chinese aesthetics, a slight blue color that appears when moonlight falls on white objects at night. During the Ming Dynasty, moon white was made by micro-dyeing with indigo water and was widely used in clothing, paper and porcelain. During the Qing Dynasty, the blue component of moonlight white deepened, reflecting the evolution of social aesthetics of color. The color moon white played an important role in the official costume system, not only used in the court dress for rituals, but also common in the regular clothes and consort's dress. Overall, moon white is an important part of traditional Chinese culture and aesthetic concepts.
